Savvy Minerals is about never having to compromise quality for beauty. Savvy Minerals by Young Living™ was formulated to include only the most pristine ingredients.

** The Official Savvy Mineral Makeup Video from YL: https://youtu.be/wJWidCwb1vc

Every Savvy Minerals product was carefully crafted so you can feel fabulous about yourself and what you’re putting on your skin. Savvy Minerals products are developed with an unwavering standard of purity and quality, giving you a full variety of naturally derived products made without cheap fillers or synthetics. Wherever life takes you, Savvy Minerals is here to empower you to be the woman you want to be.  A few fun facts:
  • Savvy Minerals are free from: talc, lead, bismuth, mineral oil, parabens, lead, gluten and mercury!
  • Savvy Minerals are made in the USA (the brushes are made in Italy).
  • Savvy Minerals are cruelty-free and mostly vegan (the lipsticks and lip glosses have beeswax so they are not considered vegan).
  • Savvy Minerals by Young Living uses Arrowroot Powder and Kaolin Clay. Both are calming to the skin, help to absorb excess oil and moisture on the skin and make the skin feel silky smooth. This is important because most mineral makeup uses bismuth, which is a metal mineral that - when worked into the pores - aggravates the pores and causes irritation and breakouts.

Happy "Franks"giving!

The holidays are here whether we want to accept it or not, and in the spirit of giving and thanks, Young Living is bringing their A-Game with November’s promos! The promos are infused with holiday themed oils that not only fit the season, but also have many uses and are some of the most popular oils out there. Here we go...

Picture
100PV on ER retail value $13.16

5mL Peppermint Vitality
Along with its digestive benefits (perfect for after that giant upcoming Thanksgiving meal) and its usefulness in easing tension, Peppermint Vitality is also a great way to spruce up beverages and desserts during the holiday season. Once you’ve made that perfect cup of cocoa, spread a little holiday cheer and add a drop of Peppermint Vitality. The brisk, invigorating taste can help when you need a pick-me-up or just add that little something extra to some of your favorite beverages and recipes. Plus, it's great for keeping your breath fresh, which is always a bonus during the holiday seasons when you're in close proximity with far too many people.
190PV retail value $46.65

5mL Christmas Spirit
Christmas Spirit is liquid gold. From the time cooler weather settles in and the stores start prematurely putting up their Christmas decorations, Christmas Spirit goes in our diffuser and stays there until the year is long gone. This is a blend of Orange, Cinnamon Bark, and Spruce, and it really is magical. You can diffuse it all by itself, or you can add another “woodsy” oil (i.e. Pine, Northern Lights Black Spruce, Idaho Balsam Fir) and a drop of Peppermint and your house will be filled with visions of gumdrops. Your family will probably walk around the house whistling Christmas carols without knowing why, but they won’t care, because it’s hard to be in a bad mood when Christmas Spirit is diffusing.
20 ER Points (ER bonus)
Use these 20 points as store credit to purchase oils or products that you've been wanting to try, or stock up on the essentials that your home can't do without. It’s like Christmas shopping for yourself! Contact your enroller if you're not on ER and ask how to get hooked up...

250PV retail value $143.36

190PV promos, plus...
15mL Frankincense
Oh yes they did. It’s one thing to give away a bottle of Frankincense, but to give away a 15mL bottle?! Merry early Christmas to us all! Frank has a very pleasant, calming aroma and is one of the main oils people use when meditating or looking to enrich their spiritual experiences. It’s also really great for supporting healthy looking skin, so you can add a few drops to your favorite moisturizers and keep your skin feeling and looking its best. When taken internally as part of a daily health regimen, Frankincense helps support a healthy immune system and promotes overall wellness.

300PV retail value $233.16

250PV promos, plus...
5mL Sacred Frankincense
Yep, more Frankincense (as if anyone is complaining). But this is Sacred Frankincense, and if you don’t know the difference, let’s go ahead and talk a little about that. The Frankincense that you’re used to from Young Living is Boswellia Carteri and originates in Somalia, whereas Sacred Frankincense is Boswellia Sacra and originates in Oman. Before Young Living was able to negotiate a deal to safely harvest, distill, and export Sacred Frankincense oil from Oman, only Saudi royalty and the privileged of Oman had access to this highly sought after aromatic. What’s different about it? It’s basically an amped up version of traditional Frankincense with a higher concentration of boswellic acids resulting in intensified effects of calming, spiritual awareness, and the other health benefits that Frankincense is known for. You can’t get Sacred Frankincense oil from anywhere else, and it's extra special knowing that even in a country that so few have this type of access to, the Seed to Seal commitment from Young Living is still in place to ensure we're getting the purest, most beneficial form of this precious oil.
5mL Myrrh
In the theme of "items the wise men gave Baby Jesus", in addition to the Frank, you'll also get a 5mL bottle of Myrrh. Along with sharing spiritual significance with Frankincense, Myrrh has been used for thousands of years to help support healthy skin, in particularly the cleansing and moisturizing of dry skin. Diffused with Frankincense and other grounding oils, Myrrh helps bring a sense of calming while uplifting all who are around it. It is also known to help aid the body in its natural healing processes. Many people have tried and used Frankincense, since it comes in the Premium Starter Kit, but this is a great chance for many to see just how amazing Myrrh is as well.

Animal Scents!

Animal scents ointment back in stock!!!
Animal Scents® Ointment is a protective, soothing salve designed specifically for external use on animals. The gentle and safe formula is enhanced with pure Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia) and Myrrh, two of nature’s most powerful essential oils.
Animal Scents Ointment is natural ointment and it acts as a sealer when applied with other essential oils. It is a protective and soothing salve formulated for external use on animals.
Helps soothe skin and minor skin irritations by applying it directly on the area.
It is a fantastic horse ointment; especially, if you compare it to ingredients found in most commercially made ointments for animals. Remember there are no labeling requirements for pet products. Therefore most of the ingredients are not even listed on the container! Animal Scents salve contains no synthetic compounds or harmful chemicals.
Although this product was designed for animal use, it can be used safely on humans as well.

The essential oils are listed below along with a brief description of each oil.
Tea Tree or Melaleuca alternifolia Essential Oil for its ability to support a healthy immune system and is beneficial for the skin.
Patchouli Essential Oil (Pogostemon cablin) has a sweet and rich aroma that may improve the appearance of dry and chapped skin.
Geranium Essential Oil (Pelargonium graveolens) helps you relax and beatify your skin. Used traditionally to support the circulatory and nervous systems, a great deal of its strength lies in its ability to revitalize body tissues.
Myrrh Essential Oil (Commiphora myrrha) is a very powerful antioxidant making it supportive for healthy skin.
Balsam Fir Essential Oil (Abies balsamea) traditionally used for minor muscular discomfort after exercise, the warm aroma of balsam fir soothes and rejuvenates body and mind. Known for supporting respiratory function.
Carrot Seed Essential Oil (Daucus carota) has historically been used for digestive complaints due to its tonic properties. This oil also has historical use in aromatherapy for joint conditions. But modern scientific research has not yet validated these historical claims.
Palmarosa Essential Oil (Cymbopogon martinii) also been known as Turkish Geranium or Indian Geranium Oil. Supports healthy digestive system and is soothing to the body and mind.
In the revised formulation, Rosewood has been replaced with the following oils:
Bergamot Essential Oil (Citrus bergamia) has a long history of use for troubled and oily skin. The essential oil has a calming aroma which relaxes the mind and body.
Coriander Essential Oil (Coriandrum sativum) has been used since Ancient Egypt. It may support healthy digestive and circulatory system functions and has been studied for the support it may offer to a healthy pancreas.
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil (Cananga odorata) has a long history in skin and hair care products, particularly in Asia, where it is used to maintain luxuriant hair. It also restores confidence and equilibrium. Massage into the scalp to increase the appearance of healthy, shiny hair.

What are the Documented Uses for Animal Scents Ointment? Animals, minor skin irritation, soothe chapped or cracked skin, and seals and protects.
What Body Systems are Supported? Skin
How do I use it?
Clean the affected area. Apply as needed. If using Young Living® essential oils, apply oils prior to application of Animal Scents™ Ointment.

Curious about oils...

2/28/2015

If you are curious about essential oils but aren’t sure if you’re ready to ‘take the plunge,’ here are my thoughts on some of the most common initial concerns that were once my own:

“The oils are so expensive – is it worth it?”  Take just a minute to think about how much you spend on a typical illness if you add up your visit to the doctor, any prescription or over-the-counter medications you take, and the time that you are off work.  Not cheap, huh?  Since I really committed to using essential oils, none of the members of my family have had to visit the doctor for an illness – not once!  Now that doesn’t mean that we haven’t gotten little bugs here and there, but using essential oils has not only helped us avoid much of what is going around, but has also helped us get over illnesses in a few mild days as opposed to weeks of being out for the count.  I use my oils for everything that I would have used traditional over-the-counter medications for in addition to using them for cleaning, freshening, and a variety of other household tasks.  Talk about value!  There is also a reason why the phrase ‘you get what you pay for’ exists.  Are there cheaper brands of essential oils out there?  Sure.  However, I refuse to use anything questionable with my family.  I choose to use oils that are produced by a company who has been in business for 20 years and who is involved in every single step of the process – Seed to Seal Quality Commitment, baby!

“What if they don’t work?”  They do.  No really – they totally do!  Now essential oils aren’t a one-size-fits-all deal.  It did take some time to dial in the right combination of oils that worked best for me, but it was literally life changing once I did!  At first, I was worried because I wasn’t seeing the crazy immediate results that others were reporting.  My friend suggested that I try taking some epsom salt baths to detox my body and it was amazing how much that helped with the oils’ effectiveness.  Belonging to an oils group on Facebook was a huge help, too, because I could see what was working for others and it helped me to know what to try for myself!

“It’s so overwhelming – where do I even start?”  I will pass on the same advice that was given to me – start small.  Most definitely start by purchasing the starter kit.  I had heard so much about using lavender to help with relaxation and rest, but found that it really didn’t work for me.  Luckily I got Stress Away in my kit that worked wonders!  Having a variety of oils to experiment with was key to really getting a feel for them.  Even though my collection now includes 40+ oils, those original kit oils are the ones I find myself using most often (those Young Living people sure know what they’re doing when deciding which oils to include in that starter kit!).  Do not, I repeat DO NOT, try to use every single oil in your kit on the day it arrives, though!!  It’s just not pretty…  ;)  Open them all, smell them, and then choose one thing that you want to try to use them for.  Dial in what works for you on that one specific issue and then move to the next one.  Taking one small step at a time will eventually get you to where you don’t even think about using anything other than your oils when something comes up!  I also kept my oils out where I could see them to train myself to go to them first.

“I really like the oils in my kit, but where do I go from here?”  It wasn’t until I branched out from my kit oils that I really fell in love with essential oils.  The possibilities were endless and I was constantly amazed at what different oils could do.  Don’t be afraid to ask the person who introduced you to oils about what their favorites are and why.  Post the question in our oils group on Facebook and see what people’s responses are.  I simply chose the next issue I wanted to address and researched which oils might be good for that.  To give you a quick idea, here are my favorite non-kit oils:

DIGIZE – absolutely amazing for all tummy-related issues

DEEP RELIEF – this roll-on is a lifesaver for tension headaches and sore muscles

OREGANO – excellent immune booster and great for skin tags/moles

RC – a must-have for respiratory issues

CEDARWOOD – I use this every night in my diffuser to promote rest

EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS– fabulous to help clear congestion

M-GRAIN – a miracle for this life-long sufferer

If you are still on the fence about essential oils, I encourage you to jump on in with both feet!  You won’t regret it, though eventually it means you’ll have to admit that you’re one of us crazy people, too

Essential Oil Safety

2/28/2015

Safety.  That’s a powerful word, isn’t it?  We worry about the safety of the vehicles we drive, the cleaning solutions we use, our children as they walk to school, and most definitely the products we put on/in our bodies.  I don’t know about you, but it is always concerning when I see an advertisement for a new medication when the bulk of it is the crazy long list of side effects.  Ever read the warnings on the side of your deodorant or toothpaste – YIKES!

The desire to utilize a more natural approach when caring for ourselves and our loved ones is what led many of us to try essential oils in the first place.   One of the questions we are asked most often is, “Are essential oils safe?”  The short answer to that is yes, they are very safe.  However, just because they are natural does not mean they aren’t extremely powerful substances!   For example, naturally-occuring plants like hemlock and nightshade can be fatal.  Get the picture?  Lucky for us, Young Living doesn’t make a hemlock essential oil, but there are several rules of thumb to abide by when using these awesome oils…

Labels are your friend:  Each bottle of Young Living essential oil is wrapped in a colorful label full of important information.  On the front of each bottle, you’ll find the oil name and grade.  All Young Living oils are 100% pure, therapeutic-grade (AKA the highest quality essential oil on the market).  You will also see the bottle size printed under this information (most come in either a 5ml or 15ml size).  The back of the label will give you directions on how the oil can be used – aromatically, topically, and/or as a dietary supplement.  Not all essential oils are recommended for all three types of use, so reading and adhering to the information printed on the bottle is important!  Within these directions will be suggested dilution ratios.  This simply means that it is recommended to mix the essential oil with a carrier oil (your choice of vegetable oil like olive, coconut, or grape seed) before applying or ingesting it.  You will also see a batch number stamped on the back of every bottle – that’s right, every single bottle!  As part of Young Living’s commitment to quality, they are able to track each bottle back to the batch it was produced from should there ever be a concern.  Pretty cool, right?  Since they produce both single oils (made from one single plant) and blends (made from two or more plants combined together), peeling back the rear portion of the label will reveal the ingredient list and supplement facts if applicable.

Actions and reactions:  If you know you are allergic to lavender, it probably isn’t a wise decision to use lavender oil – make sense?  Now this doesn’t necessarily hold true for everyone and every oil.  Due to the distillation process, proteins (what usually causes an allergic reaction) are generally absent from the essential oil minimizing the chance of allergic reactions.  The essential oil of a plant may come from a different portion than what triggers an allergic reaction for a specific individual.  For example, lemon oil is obtained from the rind and not the flesh of the fruit.  Some people may be allergic to lemon no matter what, but others may have no reaction to the essential oil because it comes from a different part of the plant.  If you know you have an allergy to a certain plant but are wanting to try the essential oil, consult with your doctor before testing a small amount on a non-sensitive part of your body (like the back of your hand).  Several of Young Living’s blends and products contain nut oils.  You can always contact Young Living directly for an up-to-date ingredients list of any product, but if you have a nut allergy, take caution when considering use of the following products:

Products containing coconut oil:

          • Awaken™
          • Breathe Again™ roll-on
          • Deep Relief™ roll-on
          • RutaVaLa™ roll-on
          • Stress Away™ roll-on
          • Tranquil™ roll-on
          • Valor®
          • Valor roll-on
          • YL Oola Grow™
Products containing almond oil:
          • 3 Wise Men™
          • Acceptance™
          • Awaken™
          • Cel-Lite Massage Oil™
          • Cinnamint Lip Balm™
          • Dragon Time™ Massage Oil
          • Genesis™ Hand and Body Lotion
          • Grapefruit Lip Balm
          • Hope™
          • Into the Future™
          • KidScents® Lotion
          • KidScents® Tender Tush
          • Lavender Lip Balm
Calling interference:  Most of the time, essential oils are perfectly safe to use even if you are taking another medication.  However, there are some instances in which essential oils like grapefruit may interfere with prescribed medication.  If you are taking any prescription medication, it is strongly recommended to consult your health care provider prior to the use of any essential oils to check for possible contraindications.

Love our littles:  Many of us have children and are excited at the possibility of using essential oils with our beloved little ones!  Most essential oils are perfectly safe to use with children as long as they are diluted appropriately.  One of our favorite resources on the topic of oils and kids is the book Gentle Babies by Debra Raybern.  You do want to make sure that your essential oils out of children’s reach (they can stain and you don’t want them in eyes, little mouths, etc.).   There are also a few oils with special child safety caps because they can be dangerous if swallowed such as PanAway due to the wintergreen it contains.

Lemon, lime, and orange – oh my:  We absolutely adore Young Living’s citrus oils for the variety of benefits they offer and for their yummy smells!  However, it is important to take some extra precautions when using citrus oils because of their ability to dissolve certain plastics.  This is great if you want to get a sticky label off of a glass jar, but not so great if the lemon oil you put in your water dissolves your cup!  The general rule is that citrus oils should only be used in glass or stainless steel containers – no plastics.

Soak up some rays:  Or maybe not… Certain essential oils are photosensitive.  This means they absorb sunlight or radiant energy more intensely than your skin naturally would.   You’ll want to check the label of the oil you’re using to see if it contains this warning and avoid the sun for up to 12 hours after application.

Whoa mama:  Many essential oils are completely safe to use while pregnant and can provide much-needed relief for a variety of pregnancy symptoms.  There are some oils that should be avoided during pregnancy, however.  The Gentle Babies book mentioned above is a fabulous resource for information about using essential oils while pregnant.

Too much of a good thing:  As we said, Young Living’s essential oils are extremely potent and powerful substances.  It is recommended to start slowly when you first begin using oils.  Choose one oil to try and then build from there.  Listen to your body and watch for signs of detoxing.  You can usually apply essential oils as needed, but do not overload your system!

Keep it cool:  Young Living’s essential oils do not expire, but you do need to take care when storing them.  You’ll notice that the bottles are a dark, amber color.  No, this isn’t to prevent you from seeing how much of your precious oil is left; it is to keep light from reaching the oils!  Even though the bottles are dark, you’ll still want to store your oils in a cool environment away from direct sunlight to preserve the therapeutic properties.

It is always advised to consult a medical professional before starting any essential oils routine, especially if you have been diagnosed with a medical condition, are taking any prescription medications, or have concerns about your health.  The information provided on our site is not intended to replace the advice of your doctor or diagnose any medical condition.  Treat essential oils with the care and respect they deserve and exercise your best judgment when using them for a safe, effective experience!
