ZZZZzzzzz....

Looking for natural sleep remedies? Or, non prescription sleep aids?
Do you need to get a great night sleep?

Well, you have come to the right place! Essential oils can help you relax before you go to bed, get a good night sleep and even reduce or stop snoring!

But, first, did you know that…

Our quality of sleep is affected by:
  • What we eat and drink (caffeine and heavy meals before bed will keep us up)
  • What we do before bed (exercising right before will keep me up, but exercising during the day helps me sleep better
  • What we have next to our bed (bright alarm clock or night lights may disrupt your sleep)
  • Our stress levels
  • Other health conditions (liver toxicity, under active thyroid, hormones, etc)

So, my advice is, look at that list and determine if there is something else you can do in addition to using the oils.

So, what are best oils for calming the mind and improving sleep cycles?

My top choices are listed below. Click on the specific oil to see how to use it and find other helpful tips!
  • Lavender Essential Oil
  • Valerian Essential Oil
  • Roman Chamomile Essential Oil
  • Sandalwood Essential Oil
  • Cedarwood Essential Oil
Here are my top choices for professionally made blends:
  • Peace and Calming Essential Oil Blend
  • Valor Essential Oil Blend
  • Rutavala Essential Oil Blend
  • Dream Catcher Essential Oil Blend
  • Tranquil Essential Oil Roll-On Blend

My suggestion....
Select one or two oils to use and see what works best for you. My favorite oils are Lavender, Cedarwood, Valor and Peace and Calming Blend. Usually I put several drops in my palm and smell it then put a drop or two on my pillow.

Yes, the perfect natural sleep remedy!
Want a Supplement that includes several top essential oils for Sleeping?
Then try Sleep Essence Supplement. It contains five essential oils including Valerian and Lavender! Just one capsule knocks you out for the entire night!

Here are some other oil tips to fall asleep with:
  • Take a relaxing bath before bed with Epsom salts and your favorite calming oil
  • Place several drops of oil on your feet or your palms
  • Diffuse oil throughout the room
  • Place a drop on your pet’s bed or paw to help them snooze during the night

Do you have trouble sleeping because you or someone you love is snoring?

Then your oils are Valor, Thyme Essential Oil or RC Essential Oil Blend. Again, just click on the name of the oil to see how to use it properly!

Looking for Sleep Apnea Solutions?
Essential oils can help with sleep apnea as well. Here they are:
  • Valor Essential Oil
  • Clarity Essential Oil
  • Brain Power Essential Oil
  • RC Essential Oil
The best thing to do is to diffuse them in the bedroom throughout the night when you are sleeping; however you can use them during the day for courage (Valor) and mental focus (Clarity and Brain Power) as well!

Sweet Dreams!

The Benefits Of Reconnect
The Reconnect kit was formulated to help maintain mental acuity and focus. It allows the mind to react positively and reconnect to surroundings. It relaxes and calms the body and mind prior to bedtime. It grounds and unites the body, mind and spirit with reality. It encourages positive energy in times of restlessness and unease. It aids in staying on task, releases negative emotions and promotes higher thoughts of self worth.

The Reconnect Kit comes with 4 new essential oil blends:

1. Reconnect - uplifts mood, allows the mind to react positively and reconnect to surroundings.
2. InTouch - calming, grounding, unites the body, mind and spirit with real life.
3. SleepIze - relaxes and calms the body and mind.
.4. GeneYus - helps with determination to stay on task.

The protocol is included in the box. Like all essential oils, it’s quick, hassle-free and so simple to use. And I saw immediate reactions. The autism study by Airase which was announced at the convention and Airase reported very positive results from their study on autism and essential oils. This kit includes FOUR oils in a convenient little kit complete with the protocol included!

When I read the contents of the oil blends in the Reconnect kit, I knew this was something special. The oil blends contain Sacred Frankincense, Vetiver, Cedarwood, Melissa, Idaho Blue Spruce, Lavender, White Angelica and Roman Chamomile. All well known for their amazing healing benefits. I have used all these oils individually, and have felt their healing power. I knew these oil blends would be powerful.
Though the Reconnect Kit is formulated to ease symptoms of autism, it can also be used for many other conditions such as ADHD, sensory issues, anxiety, low sense of self-worth, depression, sleep issues and more. Tell me, who wouldn’t benefit from something that would uplift your mood, promote a positive connection with your surroundings, is calming and grounding, and unites your body, mind and spirit? Who doesn’t need better sleep, better focus and better ability to stay on task? Don’t forget, essential oils work by bringing balance to the body. It will go where it’s needed. It’s not just for autism.

DIY: A safe garden pesticide spray with YL oils!

7/13/2014

I’ve never been one to claim I have a green thumb, but one thing I do know is that insects and bugs ruin gardens. I’d like to share a way to keep these pests from damaging our gardens. Generally, we use pesticides to deter insects from gardens; prevent plants, fruits, and vegetables from growing fungi; and to encourage growth. However, the in-store alternatives to treat these issues include harmful chemicals that have warnings if the product is ingested, if there is contact with eyes and skin, or even if it is inhaled. So we must ask ourselves: Is this something I want to spray on my flowers, fruits, or vegetables? Unequivocally, the answer is no. So why not use something safe, effective, and chemical free? Here’s a simple recipe to keep your garden growing so you can enjoy truly fresh foods!

Items needed
• Distilled water
• Spray bottle
• Liquid dish soap (biodegradable)
• Spearmint essential oil
• Citronella essential oil
• Lavender essential oil
• Blue tansy essential oil
• Cedarwood essential oil

Preparation
• Fill an 8-oz. spray bottle with distilled water
• Add 1 ½ tablespoons of liquid dish soap
• Add 3–4 drops of each essential oil
• Mix and spray generously on plants, fruits, and vegetables

For fungus and mildew protection
• Add 4 drops of lemon or orange essential oil to 8 oz. of water and spray areas where fungi and mildew may grow.

Did you know?
• Spearmint essential oil can help deter ants and aphids
• Citronella essential oil can help deter gnats and mosquitos
• Lavender essential oil can help deter fleas, moths, and flies
• Blue tansy essential oil can help deter flies
• Cedarwood essential oil can help deter snails and slugs
• Lemon and orange essential oils can help reduce fungi from growing on plants

Please feel free to share other essential oils you like to use in your garden and any success stories you may have when using essential oils as the safer alternative to harsh chemicals found in pesticides.

Sunburn Relief

7/13/2014

During the hot summer months, the best way to protect your skin from sunburn is by applying sunscreen.
You can create your own natural sunscreen with
  1. Begin by using ½ cup of Young Living’s V-6™ Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex.
  2. Add a combination of myrrh (4–5 drops), carrot seed (4–5 drops), and lavender (20 drops) essential oils.
  3. Blend well and store in a dark-colored bottle.
  4. To use: Liberally apply sunscreen over exposed areas.
  5. Remember to reapply every couple of hours throughout the day, especially when participating in water activities.
Sometimes, however, sunburns happen. Young Living offers many products to help relieve sunburn*, including LavaDerm™ Cooling Mist.

LavaDerm’s pure and carefully chosen ingredients—aloe, lavender, spikenard, and trace minerals—work in concert to reduce the uncomfortable symptoms of a sunburn. By having LavaDerm readily available, you can just point and spray to get sunburn relief* as quickly as possible.

You can also try using one of the following Young Living essential oils and do-it-yourself recipes for sunburn relief:

Lavender
Frankincense or Sacred Frankincense
Helichrysum
Rose
Melaleuca Alternifolia
Roman Chamomile

Without question, lavender is the best essential oil for sunburn relief*. If you are really sore, it is paramount that you get the heat out of the skin. Here is a simple and effective solution:

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of white or apple cider vinegar
  • Ice cubes
  • Young Living Lavender essential oil
  • Young Living Lavender Hand & Body Lotion
Directions:
  1. Fill a sink or bath with cool water.
  2. Add ice cubes to the water if you are able to tolerate the temperature.
  3. Add 1 cup of white or apple cider vinegar.
  4. Immerse yourself for at least 10 minutes.
  5. Gently pat your skin dry.
  6. Apply undiluted Lavender essential over the burned area.
  7. Once the oil is absorbed in the skin, apply Young Living’s Lavender Hand & Body Lotion .
Cautions:
  1. Don’t apply too much Lavender essential oil. Simply cover the burned area.
  2. Do not bathe with bubbles or use soap. This can dry out and irritate the skin.
  3. Avoid actions that will worsen your symptoms, such as rubbing your skin dry with a towel.

Sunburn Relief for Children

Although parents typically protect their children from sunburns, many children do suffer from heat rash.
You can prevent heat rash by keeping your child’s skin dry and cool. It is also helpful to dress children in light clothing made from breathable fabric. When possible, expose your child’s skin to air. If you are unable to prevent heat rash, here is a do-it-yourself relief recipe for all ages:

Heat Rash Relief
Ingredients:

Children Ages 0-2
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 2 drops Lavender essential oil
Children Ages 3–7
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 2 drops Lavender essential oil
Children Ages 8–10
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 4 drops Lavender essential oil
Children Ages 11–18
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 4 drops Lavender essential oil
Directions:
  1. Mix Lavender essential oil and baking soda together.
  2. Add mixture to a warm bath.
  3. If bathing a baby, make sure that the water reaches the folds of the skin.
  4. Once out of the bath, dry skin thoroughly and take care that your child’s folds of skin are kept dry.

Here are some practical tips on how to  soothe the effects of specific types of sunburns with essential oils:

Sunburned Eyelids Apply tea bags soaked in cool water to help reduce swelling and soreness*.

Soreness
Chill Young Living Lavender Hand & Body Lotion in the refrigerator. It will counteract swelling and keep skin properly hydrated*.

Dryness and Peeling of Skin
Drink water and eat foods with high water content. A large watermelon wedge provides 9+ ounces of water, 1 cup of honeydew melon provides 5.4 ounces, and 1 cup of cantaloupe or beets provide 5.1 ounces.

Seek Medical Attention Take care if you experience nausea, chills, fever, faintness, extensive blistering, general weakness, patches of purple discoloration, or intense itching when sunburned. Finally, here are a few more sensible tips for you to think about:

  • UV rays penetrate windows. Use care when sitting in direct sunlight for extended periods of time, especially with a baby.
  • If your legs and feet are swollen, elevate them above your heart.
  • If soreness is preventing a good night’s sleep, try sleeping on an air mattress.
  • Take extra sun precautions when the sun is at its strongest (from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. or 11 a.m.–4 p.m. for those states participating in Daylight Savings Time).
We hope these recipes and tips help you safely navigate through the summer months. As always, we invite you to share your ideas or recipes in the comments.

ER-Essential Rewards Explained

7/1/2014

Picture
If you are like me and use Young Living from everything from your food, to your kids and your family for medicine, and for cleaning, then a program where you can use your wholesale membership discount of 24% off retail price, get a discounted flat rate on shipping AND earn points back toward free oils is a no brainer.

I wanted to take a second and answer some of the most frequently asked questions I get about Essential Rewards and show you what my ER order looked like this month.

ER FAQs ·

What is Essential Rewards?
    • Young Living's Essential Rewards program is an optional autoship program for wholesale members.  Each month, you can select a minimum of 50 pv of product, select a date and have it automatically shipped to your home at a discounted flat rate.
·        What is the benefit of joining Essential Rewards?
    • With each month's ER purchase, you receive a percentage of your purchase back in points that accumulate and you can use them toward FREE oils!  If you needed another benefit, how about a discounted rate on shipping and priority over regular orders when products are about to go out of stock?
·        What percentage do I earn back toward free oils?
    • For the first 6 months, you earn 10 % back, and it just keeps getting better from there!  For your second 6 months, you earn 15% back and after a year on ER, you earn a whopping 20% back on your purchases!
·         What is the catch?
    • Thankfully, there is no catch.  You can cancel at any time (be sure to use your points before you do or you will lose them!) and you even get a grace month each year if you need to take a month off.
·         How do I sign up?
    •  When you log in to your virtual office, you can select the Essential Rewards tab and opt into the program.  So simple!
·         How do I redeem the points I have earned?
    • So easy!  Either call Member Services or log on to Live Chat.  They will ask for your member number and your pin.  Tell them you want to redeem Essential Rewards points, give them your list and they will verify your address, tell you the shipping amount and you are good to go!
How long do I have to be on Essential Rewards before I can redeem my
        points for oils?
    • You must be on ER for 3 months before you can redeem your points.
Can I redeem my points for anything?
    • You can redeem your points for anything that has the same PV and dollar amount. For instance, Deep Relief is 21.75 pv and also $21.75 - it is eligible!  But roller balls are $9.75 and 0 pv, so they are ineligible for this program.
